American Airlines: Another New Look

A new look for American Airlines employees is arriving.  Announced Dec. 2, 2014 in an internal memo to employees of the combined American/US Airways, the highly-anticipated updated FlightAttendantCloseuniforms were revealed.  Designed by KAUFMANFRANCO, a Los Angeles design firm, the update combines contemporary design with traditional elements.

Work on the updated uniform designs was launched close to 2 years ago, when American Airlines overhauled it’s four decade old brand.  In a behind-the-scenes video released by American, designers at KAUFMANFRANCO highlight some of the reasoning behind new design elements.

FlightAttendantMultiIn the memo released to employees, the company noted that the uniforms were designed to provide flexibility, style, comfort, and function.  Noticeably visible in the new uniforms is a change in colors.  Previously prevalent in pre-merger American uniforms were red and gold.  Now, as the company moves forward with its new branding, tones of grey take the spotlight.

Employees will have many options of clothing to choose from, while universally conserving the same color palette and theme.  Flight attendant scarves have also been updated from red, to a new shade of grey.  Employee ties have also been updated to feature the new American “Flight Symbol”.

As the uniforms are instituted between employees of both companies, American has stated that it will make changes as needed.  The rollout date of these new uniforms has not been released, but is expected within the near future.
